Enrico Dee

Enrico Dee

I met Eric in Cebu during the Sinulog 2009 Festival. Eric is a travel blogger who enjoys photographing events such as Festivals all over the Philippines. Everyone knows him for his famous Travel Blog: Byahilo. But aside from his gift of writing about different experiences of his travels around the Philippines, Eric is also known for his beautiful photographs which I should say, is the envy of a lot of photographers and ermm, media. (lol) But that’s not the only reason why Eric is featured. His works are truly amazing in terms of life. Eric creates a story in his images when he freezes the moments of dancers dancing their heart outs or even just simple moments. Truly, Eric is a certified Paboritong Pinoy Photographer. His hundreds of readers for Byahilo can attest to that.

1)How would you describe Photography?

Photography is an art of creating images with soul. Putting life into an image is essential in photography to make photos come to life.

2)What field of Photography are you much into?

I’m more into travel photography. Taking shots of the beautiful sceneries, the lively faces during the festivals and the sumptuous foods I get to encounter when I travel.

3)How long have you been into Photography?

I have always had an eye in appreciating good photos but it was only recently that I got to experience taking photos on a higher level. As far as I can remember, I started snapping photos with my point and shoot camera for a blog which I started in 2004, from then on, there was no turning back…

4)What gave birth to your love for Photography?

I’d say photography is in my blood already.  My dad’s a frustrated photographer, but he too has an eye for a good photo. He often criticized my special occasion photos like birthdays or parties, as boring or incorrectly framed. Yep,  he’d sometimes laugh at my photos that are not properly framed,  or photos with little space at the bottom or at the top.  But he’d also gives me advice me how to frame a subject well  for a good portrait.

5)What inspires you most in photography?

My blog readers. Everytime my readers email me and tell me I took interesting photos, that just inspires me a lot to push harder.

6)What kind of Photographer do you see yourself?

I am actually more of a photoblogger than a fullfledged photographer.  I love to take photos and create a story out of it. I love to let my readers experience the fun of the travels through the photographs that I took.

7)Aside from Photography, any other interests?

Travelling,  that’s one thing I cannot live without.  I also love collecting banknotes, though I have slowed down a bit on this.

8)Who is your mentor in Photography?

My good old photography book. Honestly I’d really wanted to take formal lessons in photography. I have a lot of things to learn from the masters, but I just don’t have time to enroll as my schedule is always erratic.

9)What is your greatest Achievement in Photography?

Probably getting featured in major dailies and photos appearing in foriegn magazines is an achievement already. Marie Claire, Philippine Digest, Manila Bulletin, Postcards, Travel Guide,  to name a few…

10)Any Message for aspiring photographers out there?

Keep on clicking the shutter! Practice practice and more practice. It is only through contastant shooting that you get to enhance your skills. Look at the photos done by the masters, draw inspirations from them.   And lastly, enjoy.  Dont force yourself to take photos if you are not in the mood. photos would only appear  vibrant and full of life if the person behind the lens is enjoying photography.
